KARL S. WILLIAMS, THE MARVELLOUS HEARTS & SALLY WIGGINS
KARL S. WILLIAMS & sally wiggins
A genre defying, multi-instrumentalist and award-winning artist with a voice and conviction so powerful it takes your breath away. Karl's music is timeless and deeply rooted in tradition yet ever conversant with the present. Drawing from folk, blues and gospel his songs are steeped in the swamp water of the northern NSW cane country where he was raised, lending the distinct flavour of this land to all his work.
For over a decade Karl has performed at festivals and venues throughout the country including Bluesfest, the Woodford Folk Festival, Festival of Small Halls, Dark MOFO, Panama, Queenscliff Music Festival and the Tamworth Country Music Festival, among many others.
Karl S. Williams joins forces with renowned percussionist Sally Wiggins to bring his folk, blues and gospel inflected songs into fascinating new territory. With an expansive album of new material to perform, the duo engage in an exciting musical dialogue, a dance which is at once playful, lyrical and deeply moving.
marvellous hearts
When C.D Lyons of Sydney duo the Blues Preachers embarked on his new project it was a case of following his heart. The seasoned musician, who has performed at festivals all over Australia, including Byron Bay Bluesfest, the Woodford Folk Festival, the Blue Mountains Music Festival and the Gympie Muster, wrote a bunch of songs that felt like they needed a new home and so the Marvellous Hearts were born.
Their music is grounded in old school blues and traditional folk with flourishes of rock and reggae, with songs which are too relevant today to be labelled as “retro revivalists”.
They’ve been compared to the Beatles and Bob Dylan by none other than music icon Stuart Coupe, with their tracks being spun on 2ser. They’ve also had comparisons drawn to Tom Petty and the Black Sorrows and been played across the country on community radio and the ABC.
